CHAIRMAN'S LETTER
The open season has now drawn to a close and I thank all who have assisted with the open days and with the other group visits to the mill.
Our mill tour in Kent on the 10th September was very successful and Trevor is to be congratulated on the organisation of it.
There remain a number of maintenance and repair jobs to be carried out.  Help with these would be welcome.  When we are nearer the restoration project it may be possible for some tasks to be carried out by Friends.  This will, of course, have to be decided on nearer the time.
We had thought about trying to make an evening visit to a mill such as Mountnessing, Stock or Ayethorp Roding during the summer, but the nights are drawing in and we had better leave this until next year.   The involvement with open days, the number of which we have again increased this year, and other group visits leave little time and we all have other pursuits and interests.
Essex Mills Group usually make one or two mill visits during the summer and our members would be welcome to join these.   We will advise of their dates for next year when known.
The next event will be our presence at the Charity Card Sale in Saint Laurence Church Hall on the 5th November, a return visit by the Arethusa Ensemble who will perform in the Church on the 19th November and our Christmas Sale at the Mill on the 3rd December.
Looking into the New Year there will be a quiz night in St Laurence Church Hall on the 25th February.  This will again be run by Steve and Gill Roome and is certain to be an enjoyable event.
Even further ahead is our AGM which will be on the 11th April.  Linda Hawthorn has obtained the use of the New Windmill Hall for this.  We hope to have a guest speaker to widen the interest of the evening.  -  Bob Sharp
