Chairman’s Letter
As I write this letter it is hard to believe that we have completed yet another successful open season for the year. Although we have been affected by the weather at times this has not deterred our team of dedicated guides and stewards from delivering their usual high standards of performance, together with the sales team whose help is also invaluable. To all those involved I would like to say a big thank your for your continued dedication, not only on open days but for coping with the many visits we have had from local schools and organisations throughout the year.
This year was a first for Upminster Windmill as we had a visit from the Mayor of Hesden, our French Twinning Town, who is on a visit to Havering. The group was of course be led by our own Mayor, Georgina Galpin, and I hope that this will indeed be the first of many such visits.
The Tuesday working party of course still continue to work throughout the whole year, ensuring that the Mill is ready for open days and visits.
During the winter months the team will spruce up the inside once again in readiness for next year and at the moment work is continuing on the shaft and belts on the Stone Floor and repairs on the shutters on the sails is being carried out to ensure they are safe.
Trevor Watts again arranged an excellent day trip to various mills and I am assured by everyone who attended it was an excellent day out, as these trips always are. Many thanks to you Trevor for all the hard work in the preparation of this trip which unfortunately I was unable to attend but you never know Trevor, there is always next year!
Lastly I must thank everyone for their continued support especially John Winn our Secretary without whose help our Newsletter would not survive and would like you all to make a note of a couple of dates
November 3rd Card Sale at St Laurence Church Hall
December 1st Xmas Sale in the Mill, when we will have a sale of homemade cards, refreshments and of course the usual Raffle.
Roger Fuller Chairman
More recently our present Mayor, Georgina Galpin, brought the Mayor of Hesden our twinned town in France to the Mill.
We have had two Mayoral visits this year. The previous Mayor, Wendy Brice Thompson, brought a group of London and neighbouring Mayors to the Mill back in May. It turned out that one of the Mayors, the Mayor of Greenwich, Harry Singh, was a work colleague of Trevor’s and recently gave him a couple of the pictures from his visit.
