From the Chairman
In our previous Newsletter I said that I hoped that real progress could be made on the long road to the full restoration of the Windmill. Since then, there has been a complete change of directors of the Upminster Windmill Preservation Trust, with members of the Friends’ Committee now holding these posts.
This enables us to negotiate directly with the Council to secure the lease and we have stressed to them our anxiety about the long time scales so far, together with our willingness to cooperate fully to get things moving.
We have produced a business plan for the forthcoming year setting out how we intend, subject to the Council's cooperation, to secure the lease and make an application to Heritage Lottery Fund for a development grant to enable detailed plans to be devised for the restoration of the Mill and the building of visitor facilities.
I hope that many of you will attend the AGM next month when we will provide you with more details. - DC.
